A Public Love Letter…

First of all, thanks to EVERYONE for all the birthday love! I had an AWESOME weekend with my family and friends, and I am SO grateful for all of the people that helped make it so special! So today’s prompt was timed perfectly…

Day 10 prompt: Write a public love letter to someone in your life.

SO, I am choosing to write a public love letter to TWO people in my life. I don’t know where I would be without these two people (well, definitely not even alive.)

My parents are constant reminders that good people still exist in this world. They are two of the most selfless people I have ever met. And every time I’m around them, everything just seems better. I can be having the worst day, and one meal with them will lighten my mood and make me feel like I can take on the world again. They are both incredibly hard workers, and throw themselves 110% into whatever they’re doing. And as I grow older, I am noticing more and more that the qualities I like best about myself come from them. They are not only my parents, but they are two of my most devoted, fun-loving, and understanding friends.

Both of them are the perfect sounding board for all my ideas. I can go to either of them when I need advice and know I will always get the honest truth. Two weeks ago, I called my mom from my rental car in Georgia on my lunch break, complaining that I was probably going to have to travel on my birthday. She said, “ya know, Jess… That would really suck. But at some point you have to put on your big girl pants. If they want you to travel, you’re just going to have to travel.” It was exactly what I needed to hear, and exactly what I didn’t want to hear. And I knew I could get that from my mom.

I can also go to either of them when I need a good laugh. They are effortlessly funny, and can make any situation fun. Last week, we were at dinner and my dad re-told a story from when we went to Disney World in 2004. It’s a story we’ve all heard dozens of times, but my mom, the twins and I were rolling laughing in the restaurant… So much that my dad thought we were playing a joke on him. But he’s just that funny.

So, to my mom and dad on my 24th birthday… Thank you for always having my back. For loving me and supporting me through the best and worst times. For making me laugh until I cry. And for empowering me to be the best version of myself. I cannot begin to explain to all the strangers on the internets how much you mean to me, and how lucky I am to have parents who care as much as you do.

Who would you write a public love letter to? Hope everyone had a good weekend! :)

  1. “But at some point you have to put on your big girl pants. If they want you to travel, you’re just going to have to travel.” Love this! :)

  2. Happy belated birthday! What a lovely letter to your parents. I am sure they are so proud of who you’ve become. One thing I’ve learned is that no matter how old you are, you always need your parents :)

  3. I’m popping over to your beautiful blog from Blogtember and I just thought I’d let you know how much I enjoyed your love letter to your parents! I too have an extremely close and special relationship with my parents – they are two of the most important people in my life and I know I can always count on them. I love that you took this opportunity to publicly remind them of how much they mean to you. x
